News Flash Clerk/Register of Deeds Office to launch property fraud alert service

Cass County Clerk/Register Monica McMichael’s office is rolling out a new service to protect Cass County residents against potential property fraud.

Property fraud, often referred to as “house stealing,” is a growing issue nationwide. Fraudsters use stolen identities to file fake deeds or other legal documents, making it appear as though they own a property. This can result in devastating financial and legal consequences for actual property owners. The Cass County Clerk/Register’s Office has partnered with Property Fraud Alert, a free notification service designed to notify citizens when properties may be linked to fraudulent activity.

“Our goal is to provide the tools and resources necessary to help our citizens protect their most valuable assets,” McMichael said. “With Property Fraud Alert, residents can rest easy knowing they’ll be immediately informed of any suspicious activity involving their property.” More information can be found here
